Current lab members:

Fernando Teque - Lab Manager/Staff Research Associate

Fernando Teque works with Dr. Levy on approaches to identify CAF. His research involves virology, immunology, and molecular biology. He is also examining the potential function of CAF in blocking viral transcription. In particular, the possible inhibition of PTEF b (the positive transcriptional elongation factor b) by CAF is being evaluated.

Kimmy (Hoi) Tam - Lab Helper

Kimmy is a pharmacy student (2018) at UCSF. She performs general laboratory maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory.

Maelig Morvan, Ph.D. - Research Specialist

Maelig is an immunologist who is studying the innate immune responses against HIV, in particular those mediated by CD8 T cells and Natural Killer (NK) cells.

Caroline Roth, M.Sc. - Assistant Specialist

Caroline is focused on assessing CAF candidates for HIV suppression, through acute infection assays and molecular characterization of these proteins.

Bao "Jimmy" Sit - Academic Analyst

Jimmy supports six lab-based faculty in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, including Dr. Levy.

Katharine Bossart, Ph.D. - Consultant

Katharine Bossart holds a a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology, and has worked in government and academia for over 20 years. Her career was focused on developing therapeutic drugs and vaccines for human viruses. Over the past decade, her work on Hendra and Nipah viruses, two highly lethal viruses, lead to the invention, development, and eventual deployment of successful vaccines to combat theses viruses. Dr. Bossart has founded Integrated Research Associates, a small biotechnology company located in Marin County, California. The company's mission is to develop therapeutic drugs or vaccines for several viruses of growing public health importance such as dengue virus, Zika virus, and enterovirus 71.
